Network Security Engineer

The Network and Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and managing a hybrid network infrastructure and its security, in conjunction with the managed network service provider, working closely with the Cyber Security and Infrastructure teams.

The Network and Security Engineer will run the day-to-day network security operations, planning and implementing changes as required as part of BAU and project activities. The engineer will play a leading role in delivering high profile projects, including network and firewall refresh and cloud migration and expansion.

  • Working with the managed network service provider to report and investigate network issues
  • Lead engineer on network and firewall projects
  • Design, implementation, administration and maintenance of next-generation firewalls, VPNs and load balancers
  • Ensuring the security of the network infrastructure through maintaining best practice configuration and firmware levels
  • Review, plan and implement changes to networking systems and services
  • Identify gaps and opportunities as part of continuous improvement to ensure high standards of security, resilience and performance.
  • Ownership of firewall and network documentation

Qualifications
Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing and administering next-generation firewalls (ideally Check Point, Fortinet and Palo Alto)
  • The ability to design and maintain secure network architectures in the cloud and on-premises environments
  • Experience in administering Cisco network infrastructure, including NX-OS, IOS, WLC and Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Experience in designing, implementing and administering firewalls, ACLs, IPS/IDS, VPNs, load balancers, DNS, DHCP
  • Advanced knowledge of WAN, LAN and WLAN networking principles, protocols and technologies
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, including packet analysis to diagnose application and connectivity issues
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and BAU
  • Experience acting as lead on and managing complex technical projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • The ability to work closely and collaboratively with Cyber Security, Infrastructure and other teams as well as independently

 Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a regulated environment
  • Experience following change management and similar ITIL best practice
  • Experience managing network security controls in AWS and Azure environments

 Qualification requirements

  • Networking certifications, e.g. CCNP R&S or equivalent experience (essential)
  • Azure certifications, e.g. AZ-700 (desirable)
  • AWS certifications, e.g. ANS-C00 (desirable)

 Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 per annum, plus performance-related bonus and excellent benefits package.

*This role is based in the United Kingdom and as such all standard working days must be carried out in the United Kingdom
